And then awesome! I did non know that consomme was then I but bought beef goop. Earlier I made the recipe I looked it up and realized it is a strong goop and then I just added 3 beef bullion cubes to the broth before adding the roast beef. It was so great. Everyone in my family gobbled it up. My married man preferred cheddar and and mustard so it was easy to modify information technology up before putting in the oven.
03/24/2011
Information technology does't go much easier than this! Plus, it tastes really expert! All I added to the "au jus" was a one tsp. of minced garlic, and a ane/2 tsp. of rosemary. I likewise sauteed a large onion sliced into i/2 inch rings. I used swiss cheese instead of provolone (personal preference). These were some "Easiest" French Dip sanwiches ever!
05/19/2008
This was crawly! I merely au jus (in the packet) and it came out great. I added some garlic and onion salt to the juice. I also added garlic salt on top of the sandwiches earlier cooking. This was quick and simple and we loved it, thank you!
01/17/2009
I made this for my son and I this evening. He said this is improve than Arby'due south! I did make a few changes. I added onion pulverization, garlic powder, and pepper to the beef goop similar others did. I sauteed light-green bell pepper, onion and mushroom to add to sandwich nether the provolone. Gotta go them veggies in! I am nevertheless trying to find the bread that will hold up to the juice as the hoagie turns too mushy, maybe toasting information technology as others have done will make the difference. I'll try that next time. I have found that the sandwich turns out best with good quality meat from the cafeteria. This is a keeper for my family every bit we tin can customize to individual tastes, quick to ready and yummy.

This is a Swell sandwich. I am the master cook on our shift at the fire department and the guys are always looking for something different. These sandwiches along with homemade french onion soup rocks! Cheers for the not bad recipe!

My husband and I really really enjoyed these and they were exactly what we were looking for in a french dip. As per others suggestions, I sauteed onions and mushrooms and put them on also. I will definately be making these again.
06/04/2007
These were so good and so piece of cake! I had leftover roast beef and beef goop in the freezer, bootleg rosemary breadstuff, and provolone. I added a piffling rosemary to the goop, and it was perfect. My family loved it! Thanks for a bully idea, writergirl.
05/13/2011
Very easy. I've used consomme forever due to it's weight & flavor. However, absolutely Not a fan of deli roast beef b/c it does not even resemb le real roast beef in season. I take a four lb.boneless beef roast from the freezer, place it in a 500 degree oven for 30-45 mins. Turn oven down to 250 and roast UNcoveredfor 6 hrs. The finished product is fantastic & the drippings must exist moistened, stirred up & added to the consomme. This is the only way to eat roast beef in our family.
04/03/2008
This was a very like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious recipe. My husband and very picky teenager loved it! I substituted the beef consomme for 1 can of beef goop and no h2o and got wonderful results!
01/28/2008
Perfect for a quick Sunday dark dinner with some fries. Very tasty and you lot tin't observe a much easier recipe. I'g sure I'll be making these once again, thanks!
09/24/2007
Couldnt exist any easier, inexpensive or yummy! This is extrememly basic. Even the worst cook will succeed with the great tasting recipe. Thanks for the share.
06/23/2011
I served these sandwiches for dinner and they were really simple to put together and tasted actually corking. However, I did change the recipe a scrap. I used a tin of French onion soup, one/2 tin of water, and a tin of beef goop for the liquid, and sauteed some sliced mushrooms and onions to add as toppers earlier the provolone. I also added some horseradish sauce to my sandwich later information technology was heated. Everyone else just used the dipping sauce. Only nosotros all idea they were astonishing. We'll definitely have these again.
09/08/2008
I'one thousand glad I institute this recipe. Information technology's uncomplicated and delicious. I added garlic pulverization, onion powder and blackness pepper to the au jus.
03/23/2011
I have made this recipe for years and it is always a crowd pleaser! I dearest that it's so quick and easy to make and it'southward actually adept. I always take only a couple extra minutes and saute some thinly sliced onions and sliced mushrooms. I add together the onions and mushrooms on top of the roast beef and so layer my cheese. The onions and mushrooms make it extra yummy, but the recipe is all the same 5 stars as is!
06/23/2011
Splendid recipe. I added garlic butter to the bun before broiling---yum!
12/nineteen/2010
Very good, very easy. I used jack cheese considering I didn't have provolone and it was but every bit good (I've made this recipe several times using provolone). Kids love it.
01/24/2011
This was such a neat recipe! I sauted some onions in a tbsp of butter first and cooked those downwardly, and so added the beefiness consomme and a cup of water with 1 bouillon cube. Was a total hitting in my business firm and I take a person in my household that enjoys actually skillful food.!!!! Def a keeper!
06/26/2011
Super piece of cake. Can't find beef consomme in Germany then I used beef stock&granules, since I read it is but a actually strong broth. I used Swiss cheese, and likewise added salt and pepper before placing it in the oven. Next time, I'm going to put the bread in by itself first, then add the meat&cheese to melt in one case its toasted, considering the cheese completely melted before the staff of life was able to get toasty enough for us.
05/13/2011
This is a VERY easy and succulent recipe. I really made it using French Onion Soup rather than the beefiness consomme and it really gave the roast beef flavor. Toasting the hoagie buns is of import! Overall Crawly quick meal.
06/20/2011
This recipe is delish! My hubby was so excited to eat a french dip at home (instead of a restaurant) and I loved that it was so easy. We used ciabatta rolls. Information technology has been added to the dinner rotation. ( :
06/23/2011
I have been making a very similar version of this for years. A favorite of my hubby! The only thing different is a use a can of beef consommé and a tin can of French Onion and one to one and a one-half cans water. Information technology makes for a richer 'au jus'. Also employ swiss cheese sometimes. Corking like shooting fish in a barrel recipe!! :-)
05/12/2011
Toasting the hougie does make a difference. I toast the bread with garlic butter until information technology is crispy. Occasionally; I'll add provolone or Swiss cheese during the toasting. This seals the breadstuff and allows the au jus to slowly mix into the bread. I accept also used the au jus as a dipping sauce simply, that way the bread soaks up the au jus at the time you consume it. Either way, this is a great sandwich and a regular at my home.
05/thirteen/2011
A fair recipe. The sodium cistron is a " Killer " At 2000+ mgs of salt, this is not salubrious. You can make a scratch dip and amend this to a good and healthy meal. Have-out Chinese nutrient is better than this for the sometime body.
06/23/2011
If your hoagie buns are mushie, I recommend you try a baguette. Slice it to preferred length and dip away. It holds up great.
01/09/2011
pretty darn good for someone who grew upwardly ordering this at every restaurant! I think information technology could employ a tad more spice - but I tin't pinpoint what it needs. I fabricated it exactly as written and it was excellent. I had two - shhhhhh!
12/09/2010
Easy and delicious! Subbed a can of French Onion Soup for the Beef Consomme.
09/xx/2011

05/23/2011
I am but a poor student, so I used the Oscar Meyer prepackaged roast beef, merely I think if I'd used some really good cafeteria stuff, and remembered to put horseradish on my sandwich (yummm!!), this would have been even better. As I fabricated it, it was quite delicious especially considering how inexpensive and easy this was!

03/23/2011
Delicious served with a ranch & veggie pasta salad. If y'all monitor your sodium intake, there are tasty ways to reduce the sodium in this recipe. Use a i:1 ratio of canned beefiness broth to homemade sodium free beef stock. I omit the cheese and add together onions lightly sauteed in olive oil.
01/17/2008
5 stars for being so like shooting fish in a barrel! A lot of times, these quick/shortcut recipes aren't worth the time they salvage, merely this ane is! I forgot to add the h2o, and it even so turned out great - didn't miss information technology - merely I but made two sandwiches instead of 4. Also, nosotros used pepper-jack cheese b/c they didn't have the correct kind at the grocery store. Yum! So quick and like shooting fish in a barrel!
02/19/2011
This is the easiest thought for a recipe ever, lol. I actually just purchase a packet of Au Jus mix, prepare it as directed, plus a little rosemary, then follow this recipe from there. Yummy & simple. Pre-toasting the rolls a bit is highly recommended.
07/01/2012
Very good as written....became a 5 star when we used beefiness broth, added a dash of worcestershire sauce, garlic pulverization and onion pulverisation, let simmer 10 minutes...meanwhile we toasted the rolls for 5 minutes then added cheese to melt...placed roast beefiness directly onto rolls slathered a little horseradish sauce on one side and used the leftover au jus for dipping. Divine Yumminess!
02/04/2011
Very easy and good, nonetheless, I think next fourth dimension I will add some more flavors to the broth. Maybe a swish of worcestershire and some onion. Will common salt and pepper the beef after putting it on the bread. Volition definitely make again.
08/04/2010
Was Groovy!! I added some caramelized onions to the sandwiches...yum!
12/06/2010
quick, piece of cake and good. I used only beef broth and swiss cheese
04/01/2014
I always add scarlet wine to my beef swallow...about 2 1/2 tbs. it adds an unmatched season...plus, I added garlic powder, and instead of water I add a tin can of French onion soup. Love!
01/17/2011
So simple, delicious and quick! Smashing recipe.
03/28/2011
If the meat has fat it volition compress upwards and look less yummy. Information technology would exist better with steak or prime number rib slices. My husband liked information technology and then joked nigh it seeming fancy eventhough it is mostly made from left overs. The side by side day I fabricated the same thing just every bit cold sandwhiches and he said he liked it a lot better the other fashion. This is expert with cooked onions (I added cooked mushrooms to his too) and I recall it was better that manner. I volition brand this again many times.
12/12/2010
Super piece of cake and tasted excellent! Wouldn't change a thing!
04/03/2011

06/03/2014
Very tasty and easy.
06/23/2011
The rating is as recipe is written just we prefer it with half ruddy wine (or dry sherry) - gives it a more sophisticated twist. Anyway, so easy no thing which style and a keen sandwich.
04/06/2012
Dellicious. Try using a can of French Onion soup (without the water) in place of beef consomme.
07/09/2011
I actually found this recipe quite banal. I had to add a few ingredients to salvage it. I added 1 shallot, sliced into rings; i/2 small ruby onion, sliced; 2 garlic cloves, minced; 1/2 tsp pot herbs. Besides, the provolone cheese was very overwhelming. I would heartily recommend a milder cheese, such equally mozzarella.
01/24/2011
Me and my son liked it, merely my hubby is picky. He ate it tho.
01/23/2012
I added onions & green peppers sauteed in real butter with the cheese on top of the meat. Very good & easy to make.

This is like shooting fish in a barrel and succulent. I used beef broth and information technology turned out dandy.
07/04/2011
Loved this. It was so elementary I don't why I never thought of it myself. I used beef broth with a sprinkling of Lipton onion soup mix and powdered garlic as the au jus, Sauted onion, dark-green and ruby peppers and mushrooms. I put the bottom half back under the broiler for a few seconds until the cheese melted. I besides spread a little Miracle Whip on the tiptop half. Delicious. Rave reviews.
05/10/2014
So simple only and then skillful! Plan to make weekly.
10/03/2012
I followed this recipe exactly as written- it gets 5 stars for simplicity, an platonic weeknight meal. I would requite it 3 stars for taste- I found it bland. Perhaps with changes (possibly some onions?) it would exist tastier. So 4 stars overall. Thank you for sharing!
10/31/2011
This simple recipe was delicious!! I wasn't sure what beef consomme was simply after some searching I found it in the Campbells soup department... beef consomme! I made it exactly as directed and information technology was a striking at our business firm!
05/17/2012

I sauteed/carmalized some onions, then thru a little form basis mustard on the sandwich when information technology came out and myyyy oh myyyy.. restaurant quality
06/23/2011
I had my doubts that this was as skillful as the reviews but male child was I incorrect. This was easy and tasted great! I did utilise beefiness broth but would like to try the French Onion soup as suggested by others. I also toasted the bread and that proffer really worked. Thanks for a actually easy dinner!
03/27/2014
Astonishing and delicious!!! Already a family favorite!
04/23/2011
good recipe, i recollect information technology would be meliorate using french onion soup rather than consomme'...will give it a try side by side fourth dimension.
08/29/2011
This was great, especially for how simple it is! I only had beef broth so I boiled information technology down to get it thicker, I also threw in nigh half of a large onion and three large cloves of garlic (I love garlic) and allow it boil downwards together. In one case the onions were prissy and tender I added the meat, and when I put the meat in the sandwich I strained out the onions and garlic out and used the broth for dipping. Came out awesome.
06/23/2011
Campbell'southward soup has a recipe similar this...they employ French Onion soup...ane tin can, undiluted. My husband loves it.
08/08/2011
This is REALLY practiced, for such a simply recipe. I did not have the beef consomme, so used a pkg of au jus and thickened it with iii TBSP cornstarch, because my son does non like his staff of life to get soggy from dipping. This made the au jus much more similar a gravy, which was yet wonderful. I retrieve the underground is in heating the roast beef in the au jus earlier placing on the buns.
02/12/2011
I never thought of Provolone before and I used Italian Roast Beefiness and fresh bakery hoagies - delish!

Corking sandwich so easy. I added one-half an onion to the consomme and heated information technology on the stove until the onions were soft. This gave information technology a wonderful flavor, like french onion soup, and I love the soft onions on the sandwich :) Next time i'm going to employ Focaccia breadstuff!
05/nineteen/2011

04/25/2011
4stars for like shooting fish in a barrel preparation. Skilful sandwiches.
12/01/2011
Not my favorite. I have another recipe for french dips that uses beef broth, garlic, crushed red pepper and olive oil, which is much better. The "au jus" is the crucial part. Putting beefiness in a bun is the piece of cake part.
04/17/2011
This was very tasty and I paired them with french onion soup made with my left over beef broth.
03/21/2011
Super fast and like shooting fish in a barrel. Substituted the Au Jus parcel from McCormick for the beef consumme. My nine year old told me three times to make this recipe again! :-) Served with sugariness irish potato fries.
01/22/2011

05/09/2008
This was such a quick, like shooting fish in a barrel dinner! The quality of the broth makes all the difference...I added sauteed onions and mushrooms to mine which made it more like a philly, only information technology was peachy with or without. Served with sweet potato fries.
03/23/2011
It honestly doesn't become much better or easier than this. I've tried French dip recipes that calls for slow cooking a roast and honestly, I experience this is much tastier. Similar others, I sauteed onions and mushrooms and livened up the rolls with a bit of butter and garlic powder. Because I couldn't observe the consomme I used a can of Au Jus which is fabricated only for this type of sandwich and then it worked perfectly. Thank you so much writergirl!
